New Maui Continental Flight

The recent news is that Continental Airlines is adding a daily route between L.A. and Maui as well as Honolulu/Orange County and a second trip between Honolulu/L.A. These new flights will commence on March 7th.

These new flights are exciting for the tourism industry because there have been some predictions that airlines will lose around $10 billion this year. Continental, among a few other airlines, show inspiring confidence that holiday travel will necessitate the new flights they are adding.

Most major airlines are planning to reduce flights, but more flights give airlines a competitive edge. This is also a benefit for travellers because they, in turn, will be able to select between more choices based on competitive pricing and convenience.

Many feel that Aloha and ATA's demise caused a lot of instability in April of 2008. Since then, things have been chaotic, but the recovery of lift capacity for Hawaii is in underway.

We'll have to wait and see how much financial stimulus is provided to Hawaii with the advent of the holiday season. A nice spike in spending over the next few months alone should restore a good deal of confidence in the economy.
