Lower Gas Prices

Line Chart Decline

If you are like so many others who have been considering a move to Maui for some time but worry about the cost of living, dropping Hawaii gas prices should alleviate some of your concern. The increased prices of goods on Maui are the result of shipping expenses. In order for us to get our food on Maui, it has to be sent from the mainland, but even then it doesn't come straight to us. It has to go to Honolulu first before finally arriving in our stores.

Almost all of the goods that you will find on Maui are subject to the rise and fall of gas prices because of this process, so when the cost of gas on Maui goes up, the price of goods follows. Fortunately for us, the reverse is also true. When gas prices drop, so does the cost of goods, and right now, the cost of gas is down, down down. A gallon of regular is just over $3 statewide, on average, according to AAA Hawaii. We all know about the recent spike that had gas prices well over $4, but current gas prices are not only lower than they were before the spike. They are lower than they were last year by a full 36 cents.

The declining cost of fuel has arrived at an excellent time. Energy is a necessity for every step in the process of a working economy today. Not only to goods and services require fuel for transport, but most products today are made with some form of oil. For these reasons, falling gas prices are a big relief considering the instability of the economy at this time. Hawaii living is already much more affordable for those residents that commute to their job.

In conclusion, there are plenty of properties available on the island at great prices. I recommend using the search tool because it allows you to designate very specific criteria as you look for the right property. You can also look through featured properties to find some great picks. A recommended section is contains all of our current Maui oceanfront homes. As always, don't hesitate to contact me by email at robert@mauihomesales.com or call 808-662-0003.
